A collaborative step-change in engine fleet cost optimisation
Etihad Airways is setting a new benchmark in engine lifecycle management with Optima – a next-generation fleet optimisation platform designed to transform planning, cost forecasting, and decision-making across the airline’s engine fleet.
Led by PA Consulting, with software innovation from DecisionBrain, and technical engine expertise from TGIS Aviation, Optima brings together the best of strategic thinking, digital intelligence, and grounded, independent powerplant technical input.
Together, the Optima partnership is supporting Etihad’s drive to forecast and avoid more than $100M in long-term engine maintenance costs, by improving shop visit strategies, aligning technical and financial planning, and embedding a more agile, data-driven way of working.
TGIS’s Role – Technical Assurance for Powerplant Decisions
As the specialist powerplant technical partner, the team at TGIS ensures Optima’s models reflect real-world complexity, risk, and commercial trade-offs. Working alongside Etihad’s engineering, finance, and fleet planning teams, our contribution focused on:
- Scenario-building for narrowbody and widebody fleets: Technical deep dives into Etihad’s V2500 and LEAP-1A maintenance strategies, with validation of assumptions for their GE90-100 and GEnx-1B engine logic.
- Shop visit logic alignment: Challenging and refining lifecycle models to reflect operational realities, ensuring outputs are not just optimised, but actionable.
- Commercially-informed planning: Helping balance cost, risk, and reliability by integrating technical expertise into financial decision frameworks.
Built for the real world
Optima is more than a planning tool, it’s a single source of truth for Powerplant decisions across technical, financial, and operational domains. The platform’s success lies in the strength of its collaboration: strategy from PA Consulting, optimisation algorithms from DecisionBrain, and technical powerplant expertise and insight from TGIS.
It’s this blend of skills that gives Etihad the confidence to plan smarter, act faster, and avoid costly missteps across their growing engine portfolio.
“Optima will act as a single source of truth for technical, planning, and financial decisions—empowering Etihad Airways to navigate the future with agility, insight, and confidence.”
